Canada, as well are all aware, has given us many gifts throughout the years. Examples (and yes I am choosing to completely ignore anything having to do with “Call Me Maybe” because I just can’t with that song anymore):
And just when you thought they couldn’t get any better, enter Gay Icon of the Week Jenna Talackova.
Jenna was not only one of the other ladies vying it out for a top spot in the Miss Universe contest, she was also the first transgender contestant to do so. The opportunity to objectify herself on stage in almost no clothes was not without a fight, though. She was at first disqualified from entering for not being born a female, but the Miss Universe organization overruled this decision at the hands of owner Donald Trump (I know, crazy).
Alas, Jenna made it to the Top 12, but couldn’t make it to the final 5 to move on to the next round. So many headlines are saying “Transgender Contestant Loses”…. but like, really? She not only broke the mold in the pageantry realm (move the fuck over, Eden Wood), but was also voted Miss Congeniality by the other contestants, putting her at the same level as Sandra Bullock!
Though hopefully the Oscar-Winner-Sandra-Bullock level, not the Dirty-Sanchez-Nazi-Role-Play-Sexytime Sandra Bullock.
This calls for a celebration. Hit it, Eden!
