(#FOODPORN) Preview + Giveaway: POP UP Paladar @ CUBA LIBRE
June 8, 2012 | 10:00AM

Are you one of those people who every summer sit around drinking good rum drinks and say, as if you really mean it: WE REALLY SHOULD GO TO CUBA?

Lets face it, we all are.

Thankfully for us, CUBA LIBRE is bringing back their POP-UP paladar dinners June 12-14 (see photos below for just how great they were last time)  with 6 dinners over 3 days with Chef ALAIN, the second Cuban chef in the US since the embargo (the first one cooked at their winter pop-up). The Pop-Up Paladar involves 4 courses for $45 (a sweet deal if we ever saw one) and while we think you should make your reservations now, we do have a dinner for 2 to give away for June 13th (that’s a Wednesday) at 8:30pm.

You obviously want this. So, to enter to win, leave us a comment telling us WHAT your dream vacation would be and why. We’ll notify the winner by COB Monday. Cool? Cool.

DETAILS AND RESERVATIONS HERE

Join Chef Alain as he brings his recipes from his Cuban restaurant (Doctor Cafe) in Havana to DC for a collaborative 4 course dinner with our Chef-Partner Guillermo Pernot.

Chef Alain is the second Cuban chef Cuba Libre and Chef-Partner Pernot have brought to cook in the United States, and one of the first to cook here since the Cuban embargo.

Call 202.408.1600 to make a reservation for this special event!

still need some more persuading? check out the amazing photos Shauna took at the last pop-up they did this winter. Mouthwatering:

I can’t decide between Morocco or climbing the Machu Picchu. Both for obvious reasons, but the later probably wins just because I’ve never been to Peru before.

Next chef better make up for that garlic flan from last time.

Definitely, definitely the eastern Mediterranean. The quality and variety of alcohol and food is untouchable, the people are all welcoming and friendly, and most Americans never go so no one will hate you. That last one is a big deal.

Barcelona.!!! I wanna go to Barcelona, and eat the food, and drink lots of wine, and dance the night away to the spanish guitar.

My dream vacation would be to be able to take 30 days off from work (minimum) and eat my way through Europe. I would start in Germany and then train east to the elusive parts of Poland and perhaps down to the Czech Republic…time permitting, I would jaunt further down and west towards Italy (of course!) and then up and over through Spain and France to sample all the culinary delights! #nowiamhungry

Dream vacation? Three weeks in Cuba with my wife. Her dad left Cuba in 1958 when he was 12, but she’s never been, nor have I. Before we met, I fell in love with Afrocuban music, even learned to play the clave & some tumbao on the conga, eek out some salsa moves. She has since gotten me hooked on palomilla, pastelitos de guayaba y queso, and cafe con leche at Versailles on Calle 8. Now I want to visit the motherland, meet her aunt in Cienfuegos, and see the sugar refinery where her grandfather worked as a chemist. And play on the beaches, take in the music, meet some locals, check out the cars & architecture…
