After a week of many lackluster shows, going to see a designer you truly adore is REALLY exciting. So despite the early call time, I was stoked to go to Karen Walker’s Fall 2011 show – and, as predicted, she did not disappoint.
Walker sought inspiration from a late-70s disco in Northern England, Dexy’s Midnight Runners, and English workwear. Walker’s unique fusion of ideas resulted in a collection that was slightly more subdued than her usual outings, while still retaining a strong set of Walker’s greatest hits: funny prints, boyish girly cool clothes, and awesome sunglasses. Walker accented a minimal nude palette with pops of cobalt, poppy, and yellow and seamed black leather in just about every way possible into the garments. The collection was fun, crisp, clever and wearable – quite frankly, everything a collection should be.
