This Friday night, Chicago legend Ron Trent returns to DC to throw a party with local dance music stalwart, Chris Burns, at the New York Ave. Loft. As a producer/record label head, Trent is well known for his extensive work in dance music in Chicago and New York in the 1990s and 2000s as a producer, record label owner and DJ. His accomplishments have taken him all over the world several times over and his own creations and labels’ output have helped define how house music has evolved in the past 20 years.
Trent has been a big supporter of DC artists, DJs and the underground scene for years and returns to Washington with fresh crates of eclectic music for primetime partying.
The name of the party, “Body Music,” takes it name from the well-known 1981 Prelude records “boogie” classic, Strikers – “Body Music.”
With that genre and sound in mind, Trent created an exclusive mix for the party which highlights selections both well-known and obscure from the boogie sound that dominated nightclubs in the East, West and Midwestern nightclubs in the early to mid 1980s. With slowed-down midtempo grooves, big fat basslines, sleazy chord progressions, catchy lyrics and synthesizers that sound like they’re from outerspace, the music is light, funky and very fun to dance to.
