DC NEWS YOU CAN (MAYBE) USE…
March 29, 2012 | 4:00PM

Where we talk about stuff (happening in and around D.C.) we didn’t write about but is still something you may care to get all riled about and comment on. So, without further ado – today, in other D.C. media sources:

  • Well hello, D.C.! We might not have many city-wide staples but what we do have is 100% all our own… or is it? Looks like the District’s beloved condiment, Mumbo Sauce, may actually hail from Chicago. Here’s the info and a recipe for your very own… (via HuffPost DC)
  • Washington City Paper’s annual Best of D.C. list is up today, featuring the best chefs, new restaurants, up-and-coming neighborhoods, lounges, coffee shops, karaoke, etc. etc. etc. etc. Check out the Readers’ Poll results right here and the staff’s picks here.
  • The last thing anyone in D.C. wants to ask for fear of the answer: Is Metro’s escalator problem getting worse? (via TBD)
  • As you’ve probably noticed, our weather has been a little crazy lately. One minute you’re eating your incredibly healthy chinese takeout in the sun/working outdoors, the next you’re sprinting inside shielding your laptop and beef & broccoli for dear life. Luckily and fashionably, there’s a handy slideshow for the best/most stylish jackets for D.C.’s hot-to-cold quick changes. (via Washingtonian)
  • Red-light runners beware; Mayor Vince Gray is planning on installing more cameras at D.C.’s intersections, hoping to augment last year’s record ticket figures. (via Washington City Paper)
  • And so it begins: construction on 14th and U is finally underway. Here are some photos of the intersection that’s about to change for good, and in case you’ve forgotten, here’s what the area will look like when completed. Note: Trader Joe’s not included in illustration but we’re so excited all the same. (via Prince of Petworth)
  • And lastly, if you haven’t heard of Route 29′s Batman, the Post has the scoop on the DMV’s caped crusader + his charitable, heartwarming purpose. And if that wasn’t enough for you, hey ladies–he’s single. (via Washington Post)
