DC News You Can (Maybe) Use
March 2, 2012 | 3:30PM

Where we talk about stuff (happening in and around D.C.) we didn’t write about but is still something you may care to get all riled about and comment on. So, without further ado – today, in other D.C. media sources:

  • When you pickle cabbage, you get kim chi. When you pickle cucumbers, you get, well pickles. Both are super yummy (at least in my opinion)! So why not try pickling other things? Oh wait – some local restaurants already have! (via Express Night Out)

  • Foodies rejoice! Mark your calendars because Boqueria, a tapas restaurant from New York, has announced that their official opening date will be MARCH 15. (via Eater DC)
  • Have a sweet tooth that needs satisfying? Fortunately for you, H Street Bakes will be happening this Sunday and Prince of Petworth has all the details.
  • HOME MOVIE ENTHUSIASTS PAY ATTENTION: This morning the Phillips launched a Snapshot-inspired Home Movie Contest on our Experiment Station blog. We’ve put out an open call for short videos (3 min. max), focusing on life at home with family and friends, submitted via hosted URL through a simple web form before midnight on March 25. 10 finalists will be screened at the Phillips on April 12 (and finalists get to take home a copy of the Snapshot exhibition catalogue). That night, the crowd will vote for a favorite, and the winning video will be shown during DC Shorts this September. Winner also receives a year-long Phillips membership and $300 gift card at B&H Photo.
  • Local fashionistas, Spicy Candy DC and The President Wears Prada, have joined up with trendy retailer, South Moon Under, to create a print and video lookbook for spring! (via Refinery 29 DC)

  • Has a WMATA employee ever given you grief for taking pictures on the metro? Well apparently, you’re ALLOWED to take pictures there (with a few exceptions). And not only that, but if you share your story and pictures with Borderstan, you may even win a lovely prize. (via Borderstan)
  • Excited for the Cherry blossoms to bloom? Good news! You won’t have to wait as long since according to the Washington Post, they should peak before the end of March.
