I KNOW!) and b. if you’re going to pick someone to be your spirit animal in 2013, there’s really no one better you can hope to find.

THURSDAY
- OK, lets face it-this is bound to be kind of a slow weekend. Most of you are attempting some sort of detoxing right now, maybe some of you are even re-enrolling into spin classes (and those somehow always happen at 6:30am) and the notion of even LOOKING at a drink makes you want to die slowly on the inside. So, with that in mind, here are some pretty solid options for not-just-hugging-your-pillow-kind-of-evening:
- Washington Jewish Film Festival Opens tonight – 55 films at 14 different venues, lots of really good stuff. We have a full preview/guide to it HERE (including that Velvet Underground/Andy Warhol rare clips retrospective you don’t want to miss)
- Phillips After 5 goes Arctic
- Monument Fest presents a benefit for Sandy Hook Elementary @ DC9. Justin Jones headlines the concert. Additionally, the night will feature a special tribute to Paul Simon’s classic album Graceland by Ryan Hunter Mitchell, Brandon Minow, Zach Goodwin and friends.
- and if you haven’t seen the Pullman Porter Blues @ Arena, you should
- + ALL SORTS OF other stuff
FRIDAY
- over @ H Street Playhouse, one of BYT’s favorite weekends every year returns: THE ELVIS FIGHT CLUB is back tonight and tomorrow. It is (just as the name would imply) A FIGHT CLUB in which performers (burlesque and otherwise) face off in six hilarious, over-the-top rounds. Get your tickets fast since it ALWAYS sells out. Check out photos from last year RIGHT HERE.
- itching to dance: so remember how amazing AND hilarious the main ballroom dance party was at our NYE 12:30 to close? You can thanks Lil’E for that, and tonight she reigns over 930 club. Theme: Lady Gaga vs. Madonna vs. Boy Bands. NBD.
- or for slightly deeper purposes, check out RED FRIDAYS @ U Hall
- for theatre lovers: check out the impressive Illiad @ Studio
- more in a make-your-own-fun/scream-along-to-PROUD-MARY mood? Live Band Karaoke awaits @ The Hamilton.
- also: DAVID ALAN GRIER is @ Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse . Read this old but awesome interview we have with DAG to prep for it.
- + ALL SORTS OF other stuff
SATURDAY
- Saturday days are always good for some museum catch up. WOMEN WHO ROCK feat. items belonging to everyone from Grace Slick to Carrie Underwood closes this weekend, so head on over to the National Museum of Women in The Arts and check it out.
- Also happening all weekend: MAGFest over at the Gaylord. (our “SHOWS TO GET PUMPED FOR THIS WEEK” story has all the crucial details). In short, MAGFest is a music and video gaming festival run by fans, for fans. In more verbose terms, it’s an annual event dedicated to the celebration of video games and video game music. Every year offers 24-hour console, arcade, and PC game rooms, live video game cover bands, a vendors area, and guest speakers from the video game industry and fan scene.
- DJ Rekha and Panjabi MC do their thing over @ Black Cat
- BYT Favorites Shea Van Horn and Bradley Portnoy join forces for NEON @ DC9, a dance party for gay kids and straight kids who love dancing with gay kids (this covers pretty much all of you, right?)
- a solid local line-up feat. Drop Electric and Pants Velour headline a benefit show @ RNR Hotel
- and over @ E Street, after a holiday break, midnight movies return with DJANGO, the original spaghetti western (not to be confused with “DJANGO UNCHAINED” which you should also see, btw)
- for theatre fans: this is your last weekend to check out “PAJAMA MEN” @ Woolly (bonus: save 10% with code: PJBYT)
- + ALL SORTS OF other stuff
SUNDAY
- HAPPY EASTERN EUROPEAN ORTHODOX CHRISTMAS EVE EVERYONE! (but mainly, HAPPY EASTERN EUROPEAN ORTHODOX CHRISTMAS EVE TO ME!)
- To celebrate:
- do a shot of plum brandy (slivovitz) before brunch (this may cause you to sleep for 3 extra hours while hair finally grows on your chest, but it will be worth it)
- go see WHITE CHRISTMAS @ Kennedy Center
- have a Kusturica movie marathon
- not that into Eastern European Orthodox Christmas eve? FINE.
- Speakeasy takes over 930 club for their BEST OF show and there is a Samba party over @ Tropicalia
- AND Chris Colfer (Kurt from “GLEE”, which I still watch all.the.time.so.help.me.God) is IN DC! and APPEARING LIVE after a screening of his movie “Struck By Lightning” @ AFI Silver Spring)
