There is no doubt that the District will never be a Paris, Milan, Berlin or NYC, but we have to give credit where credit is due. The District hails a variety of people from the young to the beautiful, the intelligent and all that’s in between. These unique people bring a variety of style and fashion that ultimately fuel  the culture of the District. This column simply documents the different styles of those unique individuals who walk the city streets. As the great Alexander McQueen said himself, “It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together.”

“My style was born out of frustration and, then acceptance. I’m 6’6. Clothes just aren’t made for someone my height. So, my style evolved out of wearing clothes a little undersized, but still trying to nail fit. And so, while my proportions may be a little off what is expected, I have learned to embrace both my height and the unique frame it gives me to show my clothing. And hopefully inspire other tall men to rock what makes them happy in their daily travails.”

“My love for clothes and style started while watching my Mom and going through her closet when I was younger! And I got into it more with my love for music and watching music vídeos while growing up! On a daily basis Im inspired by the little things such as art, music, prints, colors, and of course looking at different fashion editorials. In the summer I love wearing prints, colors, and flowing garments, with pink lips, and high heels!” Check her out at Good Good Gorgeous.

” I would say my style is Urban and Punk combined. Inspired by my Californian free spirited roots, I’m largely influenced by everything around me from what I see, hear and feel.”

” I usually don’t like to go in to to much detail about my style but it’s largely influenced by the interpretations a lot of Asian cultures have had of European style. My girlfriend usually sends me a lot of clothes and accessories from Korea (large western influence). In my outfits I pay very close attention to detail as well and I’m a big fan of vibrant patterns and prints, such as my patterned socks.”

“My style is usually very edgy and mainly full of vintage pieces. Most of the clothes in my closet are from ’20s and ’60s, some ’80s and ’90s. Largely influenced by my major at VCU, which is costume design for film and theatre, I am a big treasure hunter–meaning I love to travel around to different consignment/vintage shops, antique stores, or yard sales.” (Check her dress out at Via Gypset)
