Crossfade Roulette: Dance To This Sh!t

I make it no secret that I like Disco beats, but the overlap and influence of of other electronic music genres in today’s Disco scene is alive and well.  Smalhans, a recent EP release on Feedelity/Smalltown Supersound from Norwegian producer Lindstrom, is a prime example of what happens when you take disco and trance, mush it together and sprinkle it with cosmic analogue synths.  Known to many over the past decade as the “king of space disco,” Lindstrom reached out to fellow countryman Todd Terje for his assistance on the EP and the end result is lethal and absolutely dance party approved.

The album name translates to “poverty” and each of the six tracks are named after his favorite inexpensive, traditional Norwegian foods.  I’d like to draw your attention to a couple tracks which immediately drew me in and must not be overlooked.

The opening track, “Ra-ako-st”, otherwise known to us as a hot dog, takes you on a cosmic journey through the seamless combination of deep bass lines and colorful synth arrangements.  Perfect soundtrack for a late night drive or an after-hours party.  And lets just say it wouldn’t surprise me if NASA endorsed this track for future space missions.

PICTURE THIS! is a new show from Brandie Posey & Sam Varela: two girls who want to push the boundaries of what a comedy show can be. Picture This! is a live comedy show with stand-ups, voice actors and more performing while they are drawn live by some of the best animators, cartoonists, and other artists in the biz! The comedians don’t know what the animators are drawing and the animators don’t know how the comedians will react. It may be weird. It may different. But it will be FUNNY! My favorite track on the EP is definitely  “Vos-sako-rv” (stick meat).  The first time I heard this glorious composition was when Lindstrom rolled through U Street Music Hall back in October and dropped it to open his set.  There is no exaggeration here when I tell you that the dance floor exploded with happiness and got lost in a state of cosmic trance euphoria (this includes all members of the Dance Party Chronicles).  The synth progressions are ridiculously catchy and will probably get stuck in your head but what’s wrong with that?  Live a little and DO IT.

Be sure to grab the EP over at Itunes, or for now listen to the whole thing below
