In 1967 “Happy Together” bumped Beatles’ “Penny Lane” from the top of the charts and proceeded to become one of the biggest pop songs ever. You know all the words to it, admit it. Too bad it is obviously a song about a man who is NOT with the girl he loves, but just incessantly keeps imagining them together forever:
pair that up with the Everly Brothers’ “All I have to do is dream”
and you basically have the soundtrack to the lead character from John Fowles’ supremely creepy “The Collector” (only trouble is….), which was made into a supremely creepy movie in 1965 by William Wyler starring Terrance Stamp as a man who can’t bear being away from the woman he doesn’t know but loves
but because I really love The Turtles, here is a slightly less disturbing “Elenore”
Michael did it: http://www.brightestyoungthings.com/music/vintage-video-of-the-day-3/?nomobile
