Capital City Diner, one of the best things to happen to Bladensburg road EVER, closed their doors this weekend due to all the reasons you hate to hear: rising costs, flailing economy, a big national restaurant opening just a stone’s throw away.
We recently spent a night there for the first in our “UP ALL NIGHT in DC” series, so enjoy these as a memory of a time that just passed us by:

what a wonderful collection of photos!!! they really capture the variety and warmth of the spot.
So very sad.
I was pretty sure they were closing for renovations and would be coming back. According to their fb post at least.
Nice photos though
no excuses for this. poor marketing. they are in a good neighborhood and have an awesome product. there wasn’t enough advertising or marketing, bottom line. that place could have been packed every night.
what’s next for the location?

Great work, Steph. Good tribute to a great diner. Looking forward to the rest of your series.
I should have made the effort to support them more often than I did, dudes that ran the place were super nice and the food was tasty, even though I did give them shit for not stocking malt powder.
