Oh wait, is it Halloween week or something? Whatever, I’m only excited about the Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear. So let’s do rally songs instead of the usual spooky stuff.
Ok, this song is pretty perfect… Night Rally off Elvis Costello’s second album This Year’s Model. Easily one of the greatest albums ever made, produced by Nick Lowe and released in 1978, it is essential for any hipster library. This final track is a dig at the National Front, the British right wing white supremacist party (see, I told you it was perfect). It was deemed “too English” and omitted from the US pressing, replaced by the (better, but still…) Radio, Radio. You’ll notice some silence at the end of this version cause for the 1993 and 2002 CD reissues they brought it back but gave you a little pause before Radio, Radio. Thanks, I guess?
Note the cover image above is the original Barney Bubbles designed UK edition with the E cropped out and the color bars, this was also “fixed” for the US version. I guess we’re easily confused
