Road trip to Philly this past weekend to DJ for a house party that only wanted to hear Outkast and Michael Jackson. But, on Market St there is an old-fashioned ice cream shop called The Franklin Fountain that is amaaaaziiiing. Old timey soda shop treats like egg creams and phosphates and malts make me freak out with happiness. I got a “hot milkshake” with homemade peanut butter sauce and heated up brownie bits, oh hello!
So we mostly listened to the audiobook of Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat: Why It’s So Hard to Think Straight About Animals by Hal Herzog, which is a pretty great book (can’t say the same about the narrator though).
As for ipod music shuffle, the best moment was an old David Byrne song that I had forgotten about, tucked away at the end of his odd 1994 solo album “davidenryb.” Titled “Buck Naked” (which is about being just that), it’s another Talking Heads callback along with the single “Angels,” which is a poor man’s “Once In a Lifetime.” Most of this album is too 90s to be that enjoyable, but the sparse instrumentation and hilariously great vocal performance make this one worth a listen.
